Liverpool’s Premier League match against Manchester United was initially in doubt due to challenging weather conditions, but the game went ahead, and both teams played in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter. With both Arsenal and Chelsea dropping points in their fixtures earlier, a win for Liverpool would have allowed them to extend their lead in the Premier League title race, going eight points clear with a game in hand. However, despite their best efforts, Liverpool was unable to capitalize on this opportunity, and United earned a 2-2 draw.

The first half of the match started slowly, with both teams struggling to create clear chances. Liverpool eventually began to find their rhythm and create opportunities, with Cody Gakpo missing an early chip, André Onana saving Alexis Mac Allister’s volley from a Mohamed Salah cross, and Luis Díaz skimming a shot over the bar following a Trent Alexander-Arnold layoff. United had a few dangerous counterattacks, but Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk were there to shut them down. General, Liverpool looked the more likely team to break the deadlock.

After halftime, United made an immediate impact. A poor pass from Alexander-Arnold deep in Liverpool’s half gave United the chance to pounce. Bruno Fernandes passed the ball to Lisandro Martínez, who fired a shot off the crossbar and into the net, putting United ahead. The Reds were stunned, but the team quickly regrouped. About ten minutes later, Mac Allister provided a brilliant pass to Gakpo, who fired home the equalizer.

Just moments after, a VAR review for handball led to a penalty for Liverpool, which Salah confidently converted, putting the team ahead. However, a lapse in defensive concentration cost Liverpool in the 80th minute when Ibrahima Konaté failed to close down a cross, and Amad Diallo’s clever finish brought United level.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, leaving Liverpool with a sense of disappointment. Despite strong performances from players like Gakpo, van Dijk, and Gravenberch, the team’s poor defending and missed opportunities in attack meant they couldn’t secure all three points. Alexis Mac Allister was named Liverpool’s Man of the Match, having been instrumental in both goals and contributing significantly to the team’s play. Although the result was frustrating, Liverpool still leads the Premier League title race and will look to bounce back in future matches.
