Manchester United’s squad is undergoing a major transformation under new head coach Ruben Amorim, who has reportedly committed to retaining only nine players from the current roster for his long-term plans. According to the Daily Mail, key names like Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo, and Kobbie Mainoo are among those Amorim sees as vital to his project. Recent signings Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, and goalkeeper Andre Onana are also part of the retained core. However, summer addition Joshua Zirkzee is already seen as surplus to requirements.

Adding to the overhaul, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the signing of 17-year-old Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño. The deal includes an initial fee of $4 million, with potential add-ons that could raise the total to $8.5 million. Leon is expected to join the club in July 2025, signaling United’s focus on nurturing young talent.

Meanwhile, United are eyeing reinforcements at left-back, with Girona’s Miguel Gutiérrez emerging as a key target. The 23-year-old, described as an “outstanding prospect,” has already received Amorim’s approval. While Gutiérrez’s release clause is €35 million, Real Madrid’s 50% resale stake adds complexity to negotiations. Other left-back options include Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell and Wolves’ Rayan Aït-Nouri, indicating a proactive approach to strengthen the defense in the January transfer window.

Victor Lindelof is another player likely to depart, as the Swedish center-back approaches the end of his contract. TeamTalk reports strong interest from AC Milan, alongside potential offers from Turkey and the Saudi Pro League. Lindelof is expected to leave as a free agent next summer unless a January move materializes.

Additionally, former United player Patrice Evra recently revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo once considered joining PSG, Arsenal, or Chelsea before ultimately signing for Juventus in 2018. Evra highlighted Ronaldo’s adaptability, pointing to his current success in Saudi Arabia as evidence of his willingness to embrace new challenges.

With Amorim’s vision taking shape, Manchester United is clearly in a period of significant transition, focusing on youth development, targeted signings, and trimming the squad to build a competitive and cohesive unit for the future.
