Alisson Becker, Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, recently shared his thoughts on adapting to the changes in the club’s coaching staff, specifically the arrival of new goalkeeping coach Fabian Otte. Alisson admitted that transitioning to a new coach was not an easy process, especially after the departure of longtime coaching staff members John Achterberg and Jack Robinson, along with Jurgen Klopp’s changes in the backroom team. However, Alisson emphasized his strong relationship with the previous coaches and his ongoing connection with Claudio Taffarel, who has remained a constant presence.
Alisson acknowledged that change is inevitable in football and that, despite the challenges, the team had to accept the decision. Reflecting on Otte’s arrival, Alisson praised him for his positive energy and professionalism. He highlighted that Otte did not drastically alter the training methods but instead worked collaboratively with Alisson and the other goalkeepers to find a balance. Alisson explained that while he has his own preferred way of training, he was open to Otte’s input and felt confident in Otte’s ability to bring new ideas to the table.
Since Otte’s arrival, Liverpool’s clean sheet record has shown improvement, with the team keeping 12 clean sheets in 24 matches. This success is attributed to the collective effort of Alisson, Caoimhe Kelleher, and Vitezslav Jaros, with Otte playing a key role in their development. Alisson also emphasized the importance of Otte’s contributions not only to him but also to the other goalkeepers in the squad. The goalkeeper noted that their shared goal is to maintain high standards of work to meet the ambitious targets set at the start of the season.
Alisson, who made his return in Liverpool’s most recent Premier League match after missing eight games due to a hamstring injury, has kept six clean sheets in ten appearances this season. He expressed hope that the team would continue to perform well and reach their goals for the remainder of the season.
